IAB/SP, SASP and ABEA archives as a possibility for writing the architect’s and urban planner’s profession history during the Military Regime (1964 – 1985)

Resumo: In recent years, different research has focused on the professional institutions archives in search of the construction of other narratives about the historiography of architecture in Brazil. The objective of this article is to present the archives of three institutions representing the architect’s profession in the State of São Paulo - Institute of Architects of Brazil, São Paulo (IAB/SP), the Architects Trade Union (SASP) and the Brazilian Association of Schools of Architecture (ABEA) as sources for the construction of a possible narrative about the profession. Through exploratory research in the archives of the three institutions, considering the period of the Military Regime, it was possible to attest to two periods. The first of them, between the years 1972 and 1979, called joint action, and the second, between the years 1980 and 1985, called the search for identity. The definition of such periods was possible through the analysis of the documents consulted based on the Actor-Network Theory and the mapping of controversies seeking maintenance and interruptions of institutional actions, as well as and agents representing the directs board of each institution. As a conclusion, other narratives can still be constructed through such files.

El objetivo de este artículo es presentar los archivos de tres instituciones representantes de la profesión en el Estado de São Paulo, a saber, el Instituto de Arquitectos de Brasil, núcleo de São Paulo (IAB / SP), la Unión de Arquitectos del Estado de São Paulo (SASP) y la Asociación Brasileña de Escuelas de Arquitectura (ABEA) como fuentes para la construcción de una posible narrativa sobre la profesión. A través de una investigación exploratoria en los archivos de las tres instituciones, considerando el período del Régimen Militar, se pudo dar fe de dos períodos. El primero de ellos, entre los años 1972 y 1979, denominó acción conjunta, y el segundo, entre los años 1980 y 1985, denominó la búsqueda de la identidad. La definición de los períodos solo fue posible a través del análisis de los documentos consultados con base en la Teoría Actor-Red y el mapeo de controversias que buscan la permanencia e interrupciones de las acciones institucionales y agentes presentes en los directorios de cada institución. Se cree que aún se pueden construir otras narrativas a través de dichos archivos.Nos últimos anos, pesquisas têm se debruçado sobre os arquivos das instituições profissionais em busca da construção de outras narrativas sobre a historiografia da arquitetura no Brasil. Objetiva-se com esse artigo apresentar os arquivos de três instituições representativas da profissão no Estado de São Paulo, sendo elas o Instituto de Arquitetos do Brasil, núcleo São Paulo (IAB/SP), o Sindicato de Arquitetos do Estado de São Paulo (SASP) e a Associação Brasileira de Escolas de Arquitetura (ABEA) como fontes para a construção de uma possível narrativa sobre a profissão. Por meio de uma pesquisa exploratória nos arquivos das três instituições, considerando o período do Regime Militar, foi possível atestar dois períodos. O primeiro deles, entre os anos de 1972 e 1979, chamado de atuação conjunta, e o segundo, entre os anos de 1980 e 1985, chamado de busca por identidade. A definição de tais períodos só foi possível pela análise dos documentos consultados a partir da Teoria Ator-Rede e do mapeamento das controvérsias buscando permanências e interrupções das ações institucionais e dos agentes presentes nas diretorias de cada instituição.
