Construction and structuring of the city: The urban layout of Blumenau-SC as a network of public spaces

Resumo: | Recently the discussion about the urban qualities of cities has become more frequent and the public space appears as one of the main elements in the debate. With it an important concept appears, that of urbanity, trying to identify how a city can be welcoming to its inhabitants and passers-by. Considering that the streets are fundamental part of the public space of a city, we propose to investigate the city from a question: Could the urban trajectory be a propitiator of urbanity? Starting from readings with different methodological approaches, we proposed to analyze Blumenau, an important city of Santa Catarina, to understand the role of the route and its implications in urban life. Analyzing the process of urban growth through space syntax theory, we have identified that the urbanity of the city has changed throughout history by moving physically and configuring a new dynamics of socio-spatial relations that indicate the emergence of a possible "new center" to the city, situated to the north of the consolidated historical center. |

Con ello adquiere especial importancia un importante concepto, el de urbanidad, que identifica cómo una ciudad y sus espacios públicos pueden ser acogedores para sus habitantes y transeúntes. Considerando que las calles son una parte fundamental del espacio público de una ciudad, hemos elegido una pregunta: ¿Podría el trazado urbano ser un agente de urbanidad? Partiendo de diferentes enfoques metodológicos, nos propusimos analizar Blumenau, una importante ciudad de Santa Catarina, para comprender el papel del trazado y sus implicaciones en la vida urbana. Analizando el proceso de crecimiento urbano a través de la teoría de la sintaxis espacial, identificamos que la urbanidad de la ciudad ha cambiado a lo largo de la historia al desplazarse físicamente y configurar una nueva dinámica de relaciones socio-espaciales que indican el surgimiento de un posible "nuevo centro" para la ciudad, situado al norte del centro histórico consolidado.Recentemente a discussão acerca das qualidades urbanas das cidades tem se tornado mais frequente e o espaço público surge como um dos principais temas neste debate. Com ele um importante conceito aparece, o de urbanidade, tentando identificar como uma cidade pode ser acolhedora para seus habitantes e transeuntes. Considerando que as ruas são parte fundamental do espaço público de uma cidade, propomos investiga-la a partir de uma questão: Poderia o traçado urbano ser um agente propiciador de urbanidade? Partindo de leituras com diversas abordagens metodológicas propusemos analisar Blumenau, importante cidade de Santa Catarina, para compreender o papel do traçado e suas implicações na vida urbana.
