Resumo: Global climate changes are one of the major concerns of nowadays and temperature increase in urban areas is the most perceived phenomenon. This work has as objective to identify heat islands in the East side districts of Teresina-PI using data from Landsat-5 for the year 2010. It was possible to verify the relationship between built density, the pattern of occupation and the little vegetation coverage with the higher temperature areas in the studied area. The study demonstrated the influence of urbanization on temperature increase and the necessity of green areas to minimize the effects of climate changes.

O trabalho objetiva identificar ilhas de calor em bairros da zona leste de Teresina-PI utilizando dados do satélite Landsat-5, para o ano de 2010. Foi possível verificar a relação entre a densidade construída, o padrão de ocupação e a pouca cobertura vegetal com as áreas de maiores temperatura na área estudada.
