Nesse contexto, são necessárias adaptações aos sistema de transmissão, para que este seja capaz de suportar, além de uma alta quantidade de tráfego, em alta velocidade e de maneira confiável, as aplicações que são esperadas, como a Internet das coisas (IoT - Internet of Things) e a Internet Tátil (Tactile Internet). Centros de pesquisa em todo o mundo têm estudado quais adaptações devem ser feitas e uma das possíveis alterações é o esquema de transmissão utilizado. Neste trabalho, será feita uma introdução a respeito do contexto atual das telecomunicações e do que se espera para o futuro. Posteriormente, será feito um breve estudo a respeito do OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing), esquema de transmissão da geração atual, o 4G, com o intuito de compará-la ao GFDM (Generalized Frequency Division Multiplexing), tema central deste trabalho. Serão analisadas as vantagens e desvantagens de um esquema em relação ao outro e, finalmente, será mostrado se o GFDM pode ser considerado um candidato à próxima geração de telefonia, o 5G. _______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTThe next telephony generation intends to attend the growing demands for the future. In this context, adaptations to the transmission system are necessary, for it to be able of supporting, not only a high amount of traffic, at high speed and with reliability, but also the expected applications, as the Internet of Things and the Tactile Internet. Research centers in the whole world have been studying which adaptations must be made and one of the possible alterations is the waveform utilized to transmit the signal. At this paper, an introduction about the current scenario of telecommunications will be made, an also, it is going to be shown what is expected for the future. Later, a brief study with respect to the OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing), waveform in use in the present generation, the 4G, will be made. The motif here is to compare it to the GFDM (Generalized Frequency Division Multiplexing), central theme of this text. The advantages and drawbacks of both waveforms will be exposed.
