As Representações Sociais são um conhecimento útil para compreender como são engendradas as relações de trocas simbólicas e a relação com o outro. Para a construção dos dados, adotou-se abordagem qualitativa, tendo como referencial a Teoria das Representações Sociais de Serge Moscovici (2010). Um grupo de 49 alunos do 5º Ano do Ensino Fundamental, com idade entre 10 e 12 anos, participou da pesquisa por meio dos questionários de associação livre de palavras. As respostas obtidas com os questionários foram analisadas por meio do software EVOC, que permitiu identificar os elementos centrais e periféricos da representação social. Posteriormente, foi feita entrevista semiestruturada com 10 alunos desse grupo. A análise dos resultados indicou que os participantes ainda têm uma imagem clássica e mítica dos povos indígenas: A do índio bom, do herói nacional, protetor e defensor da flora e fauna. Os alunos desconhecem como esses povos vivem na atualidade. Apesar da Lei 11.645/2008 instituir a obrigatoriedade do estudo da temática indígena nas instituições educacionais, com vistas a um diálogo mais respeitoso com relação a esses povos, foi observado que eles ainda são tratados sobre o viés da colonização portuguesa e que somente deixaram um legado para a cultura brasileira. ___________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTThe aim of this study was to identify and analyze the social representations of indigenous peoples from the perspective of students in the 5th year of elementary school, in a context marked by the mobilization of indigenous communities to appreciation of their cultural and ethnic diversity. Social Representations are useful knowledge to understand how relationships are engendered symbolic exchanges and relations with others. For the construction of the data, we adopted a qualitative approach, taking as reference the Theory of Social Representations Serge Moscovici (2010). A group of 49 students in the 5th year of elementary school, aged between 10 and 12 years, participated in the survey through questionnaires of free association. The responses to the questionnaires were analyzed using the software EVOC, which identified the central and peripheral elements of social representation. Later on, we semi structured interviews with 10 students in this group. The results indicated that children still have a classic image and mythical indigenous peoples: The Indian's good, the national hero, protector and defender of flora and fauna. Students unaware of how these people live today.
