Todavia, no que tange a esse estudo, pretende-se revelar como essa prática esportiva extrapolou não somente os limites do campo, mas também do simbolismo, e funcionou como elemento fundamental para a criação de um sentimento de nacionalidade no país, segundo a tese de nacionalismo ressentido da socióloga Liah Greenfeld. A ideia central é expor a teoria desta autora e a partir do cenário brasileiro, no espaço temporal que vai desde a derrota na Copa do mundo de 1950 até a conquista do tricampeonato em 1970, perceber as convergências e divergências da relação entre ambos e elucidar em quais aspectos o futebol realmente se fez valer como primordial na construção da nação e do consequente sentimento de identidade nacional. ____________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTStudies about the relationship between football and Brazil are recurrent in the academy, after all it is consensual that football is the sport with the greatestspotlight in Brazil and therefore exert roles also out of the field game, as a symbol of the state and one of its main richnesses. However, in this study, we intend to reveal how this sport not only overstepped the limits of the field, but also of the symbolism, and functioned as fundamental element to the creation of a sense of nationhood in Brazil, according to the thesis of resentful nationalism defended by the sociologist Liah Greenfeld.
