Contudo, faz pouco tempo que ocorreu progresso no conhecimento das causas e biologia dessa infecção que têm conquistado protagonismo quando comparada ao combate às infecções por hepatite B persistente e hepatite C. Recentemente, as mudanças do perfil socioeconômico, das condições sanitárias e de higiene de populações e a instituição de protocolo vacinal para controle da infecção pelo HAV em crianças têm provocação uma mudança no perfil epidemiológico da doença, que antes era mais “silenciosa”, passando a apresentar um maior número de adultos desenvolvendo formas mais severas dessa afecção. Essa revisão compila dados contidos em literatura no intuito de introduzir noções da infecção pelo vírus causador da doença hepática inflamatória aguda, de transmissão por via fecal-oral, abordando sua virologia molecular, patogenia, epidemiologia, características clínicas e estratégias de controle e prevenção. However, progress in understanding these infections has for some time fallen into the background on the importance of combating persistent hepatitis B and hepatitis C infections. Recently, changes in socioeconomic profile, sanitary conditions and population hygiene, and institution of vaccines protocols for the control of HAV infection in children seem to have brought a change in the epidemiological profile of the previously silent disease, to present alarming number of adults developing more severe forms of HAV infection. This review compiles data contained in the literature in order to introduce notions of infection by the virus that causes acute inflammatory hepatic disease of the fecal-oral route, addressing its molecular virology, pathogenesis, epidemiology, clinical characteristics and strategies of control and prevention.
