Um dos aspectos que mais se ouve dizer é a liberdade de poder escolher, optar, dar sua opinião, ser o que se quiser sem se preocupar com limites, regramentos sociais ou morais da tradição em que vivemos. Ser livre é essencial à dignidade humana, porém, a pergunta deve se voltar para o conceito que se tem de liberdade. De forma análoga, deve-se pensar sobre a questão da felicidade, da responsabilidade, do pecado, do sofrimento e do livre arbítrio dos quais fazem parte da realidade humana e o uso da liberdade como “escudo”. Observando o indivíduo inserido em seu mundo, o que se busca é apresentar uma leitura da temática acima enfocando o pensamento de Schopenhauer, e outros pensadores, pois para ele existência humana está intrinsecamente relacionada a compreensão da vontade. Assim é importante buscar entender qual a relação existente entre Liberdade, Responsabilidade, Vontade (desejo), Sofrimento, Pecado e Livre-Arbítrio, e, para isso, Santo Agostinho e Viktor Frankl podem nos ajudar numa compreensão ampla desses fenômenos na vida humana. Para Schopenhauer, no uso do livre-arbítrio, não há uma escolha racional, mas a ação da força da vontade, que impele o indivíduo à satisfação de seus desejos. Mas a satisfação que assim se alcança, num instante se esvai, porque a vontade não é limitada a objetos específicos, não é racional, nem submissa a qualquer controle. Enquanto Agostinho vê o livre-arbítrio como algo transcendente e oriundo de uma dádiva Divina e por ele agimos para o bem ou para o mal e suas consequências na vida e na alma humana. Deve-se considerar, ainda, que cada indivíduo, inserido numa sociedade com suas normas, extenua-se, em todos os momentos, à busca de satisfazer a vontade de viver. Dessa forma o homem sofre porque é insatisfeito, incompleto ou mesmo vazio em suas existências; entediado com a inconstância da vida e dos desejos ele por vezes procura nas drogas e no sexo desmedido formas de anestesiar esse sentimento de menos valia. A vida social se configura, numa tentativa de fuga, de um vazio existencial de falta de propósitos que não subtrai as pessoas do ciclo de insatisfação. Para elaboração deste trabalho acadêmico, observou-se inicialmente a questão da origem do mal e do pecado a fim de, com base nos ensinamentos de Santo Agostinho, compreendermos qual a sua essência e sua relação com o Altíssimo. Em seguida, a liberdade no pensamento de Schopenhauer, discutindo a ideia de livre-arbítrio e como o homem se joga no divertimento e às vezes nas drogas como forma compensatória de uma existência frívola. One of the most common aspects one hears about is the freedom to choose, to make an option, to give an opinion, to be what one wants to be disregarding boundaries, social or moral traditions. Being free is essential to human’s dignity, however, the question is what idea of freedom people have. The same treatment we ought to spare on happiness, responsibility, sin, suffering, and free will, since they are all part of human reality, as well as the use of freedom as a “shield”. Observing the individual in the world, this paper denotes to present a view of the issues mentioned above, focusing Schopenhauer’s thoughts, amongst others thinkers, due to the fact that, for him, human existence is intrinsically related to the comprehension of will itself. This is an important way to understand what is the relationship between freedom, responsibility, will (desire), suffering, sin and free will, using the help of Saint Augustine and Viktor Frankl in a wider comprehension of these phenomena in human life. In the use of free will, Schopenhauer claims there isn’t a rational choice, but the action of will power, which instigates the individual to the satisfaction of its desires. However, the reached satisfaction goes away in a while, because the will is not limited to specific objects, it is not rational, nor submissive to any control. On the other hand, Saint Augustine claims free will as transcendental, meaning a gift from Heaven, whereby people act for good or for evil, facing the consequences in life and soul. Still, we ought to consider that each individual within the ruled society seeks to satisfy its life’s will. That said, mankind suffers because of the feeling of existential discontentment, incompleteness, and emptiness; bored with life’s inconstancy and desires, at times mankind leads to search in drugs and immoderate sex as a way of soothing the feeling of lacking value. As a way of scape, social life turns into an empty existence of a lack of purpose that doesn’t save people from the circle of discontentment. Due to properly enable this scholar work, it is observed the matter of sin and evil origins at the beginning, based on Saint Augustin works, in a way to understand its essence, as well as its relationship with God. Afterwards, it is discussed the idea of free will and how men throw themselves into deliberate fun and sink into drugs as a compensatory way of frivolous existence.
