Faz-se um estudo inicial do mundo árabe, definindo-o e identificando suas prioridades, entre as quais se inclui a questão palestina. Em seguida, procura-se avaliar as iniciativas da diplomacia brasileira conduzida por Geisel e por Lula para os países árabes, considerando também a influência de seus antecedentes. Conclui-se que as relações permanecem aquém de seu potencial, mas reconhece-se que, de fato, houve um aumento da importância atribuída pela diplomacia brasileira ao mundo árabe, a exemplo das iniciativas de promoção das exportações brasileiras, da abertura de novas embaixadas, da definição de uma postura pró-árabe, do comprometimento assumido na Cúpula Aspa e, mais recentemente, da tentativa de mediar o conflito entre palestinos e israelenses. _________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTThe purpose of this article is to analyze the relations between Brazil and the Arab countries in a context of closest approach, found in the government of President Geisel (1974 – 1979) and Lula (2003 – 2010). First of all, the Arab world is studied and defined, as well as its priorities are identified, among which is the Palestinian conflict. Then, the article attempts to evaluate the initiatives of Brazilian diplomacy led by Geisel and Lula for the Arab world, also regarding to the influence of their previous governments.
