O agente etiológico dessa doença (parvovirus canino tipo 2) causa danos não só à mucosa gastrointestinal como também pode levar à significante resposta inflamatória sistêmica, pela capacidade de endotoxinas liberadas pelo trato gastrointestinal ativarem os sistemas inflamatório e de coagulação. A translocação bacteriana em pacientes com sepse pode levar a diversas condições clínicas que pioram o quadro do animal já debilitado. Os cães com parvovirose são aparentemente predispostos a endotoxemia por causa da neutropenia associada à destruição da barreira mucosa gastrointestinal. Animais em SIRS ou Sepse necessitam de monitorização contínua. Parte disso é feito com a avaliação de parâmetros bioquímicos, eletrolíticos e hemodinâmicos. O acompanhamento das funções renal e pulmonar, assim como do estado ácido-básico e da perfusão tecidual do paciente devem fazer parte dos cuidados com o paciente em sepse. A consolidação da terapia intensiva vem levando a melhorias no tratamento dos pacientes. O presente trabalho objetiva relatar um caso de cuidados intensivos em um cão com gastroenterite hemorrágica de origem infecciosa. _____________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTThe canine parvovirus infection is a significant disease in small animal clinics because it has high morbidity and mortality although there is early supportive treatment. The etiologic agent of this disease (canine parvovirus type 2) not only cause damage to the gastrointestinal mucosa but can also lead to significant systemic inflammatory response, due to the ability of endotoxins released from the gastrointestinal tract activate the inflammatory and coagulation systems. Bacterial translocation in patients with sepsis can lead to several clinical conditions that worsen the picture of the animal already weakened. Dogs with canine parvovirus infection are apparently predisposed to endotoxemia because of neutropenia associated with the destruction of the gastrointestinal mucosal barrier. Animals in SIRS or sepsis require continuous monitoring. Part of this is done with the assessment of biochemical, hemodynamic and electrolyte parameters. Monitoring renal and lung function, as well as the acid-base status and tissue perfusion should be part of patient care in sepsis. The consolidation of intensive care has led to improvements in the treatment of patients.
