Um dos elementos característicos deste bioma é o fogo. O fogo, atualmente, é causado por atividades antrópicas e possui grande intensidade e consequentemente maiores danos a fauna, flora, ao meio ambiente e à saúde humana. Porém, o fogo também pode ser essencial na manutenção da biodiversidade, além de contribuir para a redução do material combustível, quando aplicado sob forma de queima prescrita. Essa prática é capaz de reduzir a intensidade e os impactos do fogo. No presente trabalho foram delimitadas 10 parcelas ao longo de uma área localizada às margens da Fazenda Água Limpa (Brasília), onde ocorre a queima controlada uma vez ao ano. Dentro de cada parcela foram lançadas 3 repetições, totalizando 30 repetições, nas quais o material foi separado em 6 classes (gramíneas, plântulas, 1 hora, 10 horas e 100 horas e amostra controle) e acondicionado em sacos de papel. Essa separação de classes diz respeito ao estado (vivo ou morto) e ao tempo de resposta do material a umidade (timelag), como proposto pelo autor Rothermel. Os teores de umidade do material vivo foram de 55,85 e 96,56%, os do material morto, entre 16,7% e 26,21%. A temperatura máxima, a porcentagem de perda de massa total e o tempo total de combustão foram estatisticamente iguais para todas classes. A maior altura de chama observada foi em plântulas e a menor foi nas classes de 10 e 100 horas (que teve maior tempo de chama), o material vivo perdeu mais massa no período de chamas e o morto mais grosso, menos. One of the elements that characterizes this biome is the fire incidence. Currently, fire is caused by anthropogenic activities and it has high intensity, consequently, causing many negative impacts to the fauna and flora, to the environment and to human health. However, fire can also be essential to the biodiversity maintenance, as well as to reduce fuel loads, when it is applied as a prescribed fire. Prescribed fire is capable of reducing fire intensity and also its fire impacts. In this study it was delimited ten quadrats over an area located at Fazenda Agua Limpa edges (Brasília), where it is applied prescribed fire once a year. Three samples were delimited inside each quadrat, totalizing 30 samples. The fuel material was divided into six sections: live herbaceous, live woody, 1-hour fuel debris, 10-hour fuel debris, 100-hour fuel debris and control sample. Each section was divided in different paper bags. These sections are defined by the fuel type (live or dead) and by the time of fuel response to the environment climate conditions (timelag), as recommended by the author Rothermel. Fuel moisture values were between 55,85 and 96,56% to live materials, and between 16,7% - 26,21% to dead fuels. The highest temperature, the percentage of total weight loss and the total combustion time were statistically the same for the six sections. The highest observed flame hight was in woody live material combustion, while the lowest value occurred in 10-h and 100-h sections, which had a long lasting flame. The live material had greater values for weight loss when there was flame in the process, while the dead ones had lower values.
