Na pesquisa buscou-se analisar especificamente três dimensões da sustentabilidade: social, ambiental e econômica. Para alcançar esse objetivo, utilizou-se da estratégia metodológica intitulada “estudo de caso” via análise de documentos e pesquisa bibliográfica. Para compreender os impactos causados com a criação do megacomplexo, buscou-se entender, em seu âmbito global, os impactos positivos e negativos gerados pelo turismo em uma localidade receptora, bem como conhecer o conceito de sustentabilidade e possíveis relações com o turismo. Observou-se, assim, que a partir dos anos 1990, o Nordeste brasileiro, devido a seus atrativos naturais (principalmente as praias marítimas) e aos diversos investimentos (públicos e privados), recebeu investimentos em empreendimentos hoteleiros conhecidos como resorts, vistos, tradicionalmente como meios de hospedagem insustentáveis. No caso do Complexo Turístico Costa de Sauípe, quando realizado o EIA/RIMA, foram previstos sérios problemas socioambientais que ficaram evidentes após sua construção. In order to achieve this objective, a methodological strategy called "case study" was used through document analysis and bibliographic research. In order to understand the impacts caused by the creation of the megacomplex, we sought to understand, in its global scope, the positive and negative impacts generated by tourism in a receiving location, such as knowing the concept of sustainability and possible relations with tourism. It was observed that, since the 1990s, the Brazilian Northeast, due to its natural attractions (mainly sea beaches) and to the various investments (public and private), received investments in hotel developments known as resorts, traditionally seen as unsustainable means of accommodation. In the case of the Costa de Sauípe Tourist Complex, when the EIA / RIMA was carried out, by the Environmental Planning and Consulting Company (Ecoplam), serious social and environmental problems were foreseen that were evident after its construction. The research aimed to analyze specifically three dimensions of sustainability: social, environmental and economic.
