A metodologia desenvolvida ao longo da pesquisa constou de revisão de literatura de autores da História, Museologia e História das Exposições; o referencial teórico se utilizou dos conceitos de memória, discurso, arte degenerada e exposição para que se pudesse propor a aproximação de duas exposições que distam 80 anos; e pela análise documental de seus respectivos guias. A pesquisa descreve a atribuição nazista do termo “degenerado” à arte moderna e as circunstâncias sociopolíticas que culminaram, em 1937, no confisco de coleções de museus alemães e sua difamação em “Arte” Degenerada por autoridades nazistas. Apresenta o caso Gurlitt, caracterizado pela descoberta de cerca de 1.500 obras de arte declaradas desaparecidas após o término da Segunda Guerra Mundial (1939 - 1945), em 2012 na residência de Cornelius Gurlitt, filho de Hildebrand Gurlitt, merchant do regime nazista. Narra a doação dessas obras ao Museu de Belas Artes de Berna, na Suíça, e a exibição de obras dos artistas difamados e perseguidos em 1937 na exposição Gurlitt: Status Report “Degenerate Art” - Confiscated and Sold, inaugurada no final de 2017. The methodology developed throughout the research consisted of literature review of History, Museology and History of Exhibitions authors; the theoretical reference based itself on the concepts of memory, discourse, degenerate art and exhibition so that one could propose the approximation of two expositions separated by 80 years; and by the documentary analysis of their respective guides. This research also describes the Nazi attribution of the term "degenerate" to modern art and the sociopolitical circumstances that culminated in the 1937 confiscations of German museum collections and their slander in Degenerate "Art" by Nazi authorities. It presents the Gurlitt case, characterized by the discovery in 2012 of around 1,500 artworks declared missing after the end of World War II (1939-1945) in Cornelius Gurlitt’s residence, son of Hildebrand Gurlitt, merchant of the Nazi regime. It narrates the donation of these works to the Museum of Fine Arts Bern, Switzerland, and the exhibition of works of artists defamed and persecuted in 1937 in the exhibition Gurlitt: Status Report “Degenerate Art” - Confiscated and Sold, inaugurated in late 2017.
