Diante das opções existentes é relevante conhecer o desempenho histórico de cada uma, com objetivo de garantir dados adicionais para a tomada de decisão do investidor. Nesse contexto, a presente pesquisa buscou comparar a rentabilidade das Letras do Tesouro Nacional (LTN) com outros investimentos de renda fixa e variável, respondendo ao seguinte problema: durante os 14 anos de negociação das LTN, esse investimento apresentou rentabilidade superior ou inferior a outros investimentos de renda fixa e variável? Para tanto, foram comparadas as Taxas Internas de Retorno (TIR) de todas as LTN emitidas pelo Tesouro Nacional (com vencimento até 01 de janeiro de 2016) com a TIR do Índice Ibovespa e de Certificados de Depósito Iterbancários (CDI) no mesmo período. Com base nos resultados alcançados ficou evidente que o investimento em renda variável analisado (Ibovespa) apresentou um retorno histórico bastante superior as LTN, sendo, respectivamente 45% e 27% no período. In front of the options is relevant to know the historical performance of each, which can be helpful in making investor's decision. In this context, the present study aimed to compare the profitability of National Treasury Bills (LTN) with other fixed and variable income investments, responding to the following problem: during the 14 years of trading of LTN, this investment had higher profitability or less than others investments of fixed income and equity? Therefore, the Internal Rate of Return were compared (IRR) of all LTN issued by the Treasury National (due by January 1, 2016) with the IRR of the Ibovespa Index and Bank Itnterdeposit Certificates (CDI) in the same period. Based on the achieved results it was evident that investment in equity analyzed (Ibovespa) showed a much higher historical return LTN, with respectively 45% and 27% in the period.
