Resumo: In this research, carried out with newly enrolled students of the "Youth and Adult Education" (EJA) program, we seek to investigate the value attributed to the writing culture. Thus, the main question of inquiry is: what conceptions do the graduates of "Youth and Adult Education" have about writing? This is a relevant issue because it’s important to understand the adults' point of view about the daily life in the literate society and the evaluation they make regarding the impact of studies in the educational program on their social practices. We used as methodological routing the qualitative research field, from semi-structured interviews with four people who attended this school modality, and in the discursive textual analysis, we list the data in categories. As a theoretical basis, we consider the Studies of Literacy. Finally, we highlight the benefits that participants attribute to their social practices from learning or improving written language. Through this discussion, we intend to contribute to the students of the EJA being understood by researchers and educators, motivating interventions that favor this public.
