Undergraduate students: school trajectories and choice of profession

Resumo: The access of subjects from lower classes to Brazilian higher education, especially in public universities, still constitutes something “statistically improbable”. The objective of this study was to investigate which strategies and mobilizations of schooling were constructed by subjects from popular backgrounds to enter higher education in UEMG-Ibirité Licentiate courses. The research is of a qualitative nature and followed three stages: analysis in the literature; application of socioeconomic questionnaire and narrative interview. Among the findings, it was evident that the chosen course was not always linked to the personal desire of the student, but with the possibility of admission.

El objetivo de este estudio fue investigar qué estrategias y movilizaciones de la educación fueron construidas por sujetos de antecedentes populares para ingresar a la educación superior en los cursos de licenciatura UEMG-Ibirité. La investigación es de naturaleza cualitativa y siguió tres etapas: análisis en la literatura; aplicación de cuestionario socioeconómico y entrevista narrativa. Entre los hallazgos, era evidente que el curso elegido no siempre estaba vinculado al deseo personal del alumno, sino con la posibilidad de admisión.L'accès de sujets des couches populaires à l'enseignement supérieur brésilien, en particulier dans les universités publiques, constitue toujours quelque chose «statistiquement improbable». Au regard de ce scénario, cette recherche visait à rechercher quelles stratégies et mobilisations de la scolarité ont été construites par les matières à partir des moyens populaires pour entrer dans l'enseignement supérieur, respectivement dans les filières de Licence à l'Université de l'Etat du Minas Gerais (UEMG). La recherche est de nature qualitative et a suivi trois étapes: analyse dans la littérature; application d'un questionnaire socio-économique; et entretien narratif. Parmi les résultats, il était évident que le profil de ceux qui choisissent les diplômes se réfère principalement aux matières des classes inférieures, dont les parents ont un faible niveau d'éducation, de sorte que le cours choisi n'était pas toujours lié au désir personnel de l'étudiant, mais avec possibilité d'admission.O acesso de sujeitos de camadas populares ao ensino superior brasileiro, sobretudo em Universidades Públicas, ainda se constitui como algo “estatisticamente improvável”. Objetivou-se, neste estudo, investigar quais as estratégias e mobilizações de escolarização construídas por sujeitos oriundos dos meios populares para o ingresso no ensino superior nos cursos de Licenciatura da UEMG-Ibirité. A pesquisa é de cunho qualitativo e seguiu três etapas: análise na literatura; aplicação de questionário socioeconômico e entrevista narrativa.
