Analysis of a Social Skills Inventory (IHS) Applied to a Sample of College Students

Resumo: | The evaluation of social skills repertoire of college students plants conceptual/methodological and cultural/educacional questions that are on the basis of these paper's aims. It is reported some psychometric properties of a Social SkillsInventory, with 38 items, applied to 527 college students, female and male, from humanities, biological and mathematicalundergraduated courses. The major results have showed: (a) positive discrimination coefficients, ranging from 3,0 to 16,7; (b)positive correlational coefficients, with only two non significative and ten lower than 0,30; (c) acceptable reliabitility measuredby Cronbach's coefficient of 0,75; (d) factorial structure with five principal factors, identified by behavioral situationalterms, with alpha coefficients ranging from 0,74 to 0,96, wich explained 92,75 of total variance; (e) preliminary data ofreliability in a test-retest procedure. It is presented some summary measures of the factorial scores. Based on this data, it isargued for the inventory usefullness in the research and in the clinical evaluation. |

Based on this data, it isargued for the inventory usefullness in the research and in the clinical evaluation.Tomando por base questões conceituais/metodológicas e culturais/educacionais, pertinentes à avaliação do repertório de Habilidades Sociais (HS) de estudantes universitários, o presente trabalho analisa algumas das propriedades psicométricas de um Inventário de Habilidades Sociais (IHS), com 38 itens, aplicado a 527 universitários de ciências humanas, exatas e biológicas, de ambos os sexos. Os principais resultados mostram: (a) índices de discriminação positivos, variando de 3,0 a 16,7; (b) índices de correlação positivos, com apenas dois não significativos e 10 abaixo de 0,30; (c) consistência interna satisfatória com um alpha de Cronbach de 0,75; (d) estrutura fatorial com cinco fatores principais, identificados em termos comportamentais-situacionais, com coeficientes alfa variando de 0,74 a 0,96, que explicaram 92,75% da variância total; (e) dados preliminares de precisão em procedimento teste-reteste. São apresentadas, ainda, as medidas-resumo dos escores fatoriais obtidos.
