Resumo: The IX Biennial Meeting of the International Societyfor the Study of Behavioural Development (ISSBD) took place inTokyo, Japan, in July 1987. The conference had been planned totake place in conjunction with a post-conference workshop on humandevelopment in collaboration with the Chinese PsychologicalSociety in Beijing, China. The meetings provided the opportunity tobecome acquainted with the latest research on human developmentnot only in Japan and China, but around the world. Moreover,it allowed a first and extremely interesting contact with these twofascinating cultures, their history, customs and monuments.The powerful achievements and potential of the Japanese and Chinesepeople and their high scientific and technological investmentsin psychological research foretell their future progress inthis area of knowledge.

Vários dos participantes encontraram-se logo a seguir em Pequim, na "China Satellite ISSBD Conference" organizada com o auxílio da Sociedade Chinesa de Psicologia. Esses congressos propiciaram um contato com as pesquisas recentes sobre desenvolvimento humano não apenas no Japão e na China, mas em todo o mundo. Além disso, possibilitaram conhecer estas duas culturas fascinantes, sua história, costumes e monumentos.
