Resumo: The conditions of the hospitalized child have been ofinterest to many health professionals, who are concerned with theholistic assistance to the child as a biopsychosocial being and withthe effects of the physical, social and emotional context on the developmentalprocess. The child needs an organized, adequate andaccessible stimulation for his or her healthy development. Exploringand playing, children increase their behavioral repertoryand try different responses for adjusting to the environment.Even though hospitalized, the child's right to playing and being stimulatedmust be ensured. The development of a behavioral technologyadequate to the hospital environment, as well as the effectiveinclusion of the psychologist in the health staff are needed.

The development of a behavioral technologyadequate to the hospital environment, as well as the effectiveinclusion of the psychologist in the health staff are needed.RESUMO - A situação atual da hospitalização infantil tem sido tema de constante interesse entre os profissionais de saúde, preocupados com a assistência global à criança enquanto ser biopsicossocial e os efeitos de seu contexto físico, social e emocional sobre o processo do desenvolvimento. Para o desenvolvimento saudável, a criança necessita estimulação organizada, adequada e acessível. Explorando e brincando, a criança incrementa seu repertório comportamental e experimenta diferentes respostas de ajustamento ao meio.
