Resumo: This paper contains two studies testing the relationsbetween the marital locus of control and marital satisfaction in the present,in the past and in the expected future. In the first, 90 men and 116 women,married at least for three years, answered a questionnaire containing amarital locus of control scale, several measures of marital satisfaction,and personal data. The results showed that internality is related to highermarital satisfaction and to a better evaluation of marriage in the future. Inthe second study, 62 couples, from newlywed to 32 years of marriageanswered the same instrument. The results showed that the relationbetween marital locus of control and marital satisfaction is almostnonexistent in the first years of marriage, but appears after some years ofmarital experience.

No primeiro, 90 homens e 116 mulheres casados há pelo menos três anos responderam ao questionário contendo uma escala de locus de controle conjugal, diferentes medidas de satisfação conjugal e dados pessoais. Os resultados indicaram que a internalidade está rela­cionada a maior satisfação conjugal e a melhores avaliações do casa­mento no futuro. No segundo estudo, 62 casais, desde recém-casados até com 32 anos de casamento, responderam ao mesmo instrumento.
