A mapping of the Archival Functions used in the photographs held in the archives of Santa Catarina

Resumo: Printed photography, an invention of the 19th century, is a way of recording and informing society in different contexts, such as: cultural, legal, historical, architectural, economic, social, etc. This information, if treated, are contributory sources of knowledge and memory of a person, family and/or society. In order for there to be archival document treatment (physical and intellectual) it is essential that a set of interconnected actions occur, here called archival functions. The on-screen study aimed to identify the archival functions applied in the printed photographic collections stored in the public archives of Santa Catarina. For this purpose, basic research with a qualitative approach was used. The procedures used included bibliographic and documentary research. The field diary and a questionnaire sent to Santa Catarina's public archives were used as data collection instruments. Of the seventeen public files, ten responded to the questionnaire. The results show the “Production of the municipal sectors themselves” and the “Donation of photographs from personal collections” as the main producers of the printed photographic collection of Santa Catarina, as well as 80% still receive/collect photographs in their entities. “Preservation” is one of the archival functions most mentioned by the institutions. It is concluded that only 30% of public archives in the state of Santa Catarina develop all archival functions in their photographic collections.

Para que exista un tratamiento documental archivístico (físico e intelectual) es imprescindible que se produzca un conjunto de acciones interconectadas, aquí denominadas funciones archivísticas. El estudio en pantalla tuvo como objetivo identificar las funciones archivísticas aplicadas en los fondos fotográficos impresos depositados en los archivos públicos de Santa Catarina. Para ello se utilizó una investigación básica con un enfoque cualitativo. Los procedimientos utilizados incluyeron la investigación bibliográfica y documental. Se utilizaron como instrumentos de recolección de datos el diario de campo y un cuestionario enviado a los archivos públicos de Santa Catarina. De los diecisiete expedientes públicos, diez respondieron al cuestionario. Los resultados muestran la “Producción de los propios sectores municipales” y la “Donación de fotografías de colecciones personales” como los principales productores del acervo fotográfico impreso de Santa Catarina, así como el 80% aún recibe/colecciona fotografías en sus entidades. La “preservación” es una de las funciones archivísticas más mencionadas por las instituciones. Se concluye que sólo el 30% de los archivos públicos del estado de Santa Catarina desarrollan todas las funciones archivísticas en sus fondos fotográficos.A fotografia impressa, invenção do século XIX, é uma forma de registrar e informar à sociedade diversos contextos, como: cultural, jurídico, histórico, arquitetônico, econômico, social etc. Essas informações, se tratadas, são fontes contributivas de conhecimento e memória de uma pessoa, família e ou sociedade. Para que haja o tratamento documental arquivístico (físico e intelectual) é essencial que ocorra um conjunto de ações interligadas, aqui denominadas como funções arquivísticas. O estudo em tela teve como objetivo identificar as funções arquivísticas aplicadas nos acervos fotográficos impressos armazenados nos arquivos públicos de Santa Catarina. Para tanto, recorreu-se à pesquisa de natureza básica com abordagem qualitativa. Dos procedimentos empregados, contou-se com a pesquisa bibliográfica e documental. Como instrumentos de coleta de dados, utilizou-se o diário de campo e um questionário encaminhado aos arquivos públicos catarinenses. Dos dezessete arquivos públicos, dez responderam ao questionário. Os resultados constatam a “Produção dos próprios setores dos municípios” e a “Doação de fotografias procedentes de acervos pessoais” como os principais produtores do acervo fotográfico impresso catarinense, assim como 80% ainda recebem/recolhem fotografias em suas entidades.  A “preservação” é uma das funções arquivísticas mais apontadas pelas instituições.
