Resumo: This article deals with lhe relationship between Education and the State from the perspective of the socialfunction of the school as a social institution which plays significant infuence in the process of the building of a nation. lt also brings up to date the analyses about the relationship between Education and the State in Latin América starting from the legitimacy crisis which permeates the process of a constrution of a Nation-State. The Brazilian State is anlyzed in the context of the Latin American States in the sense of abstracting the specificities with respect to the scene which refers to the relationship State-School for the constitution of a Nation-State. Furthermore, it deals with public policies in order to implement the utilization of the new information tecnologies and their implications in the development ofthe social function ofcontemporany school taking into its political dimension.

L’Etat brésilien est analysé dans le contexte des états latino-américains dans le sens d'abstraire les spécificités qui se rapportent au cadre em ce qui concerne les rapports école-état pour l 'étahíissement de l 'état- nation. II s'occupe, encore, des poli tiques publiques pour la mise em ocuvre de l’utilisation des nouvelles technologies de l 'information et leurs implications pour le développement de la fonction sociale de l 'école contemporaine, tenant compte de as dimension politique.Este artigo trata das relações entre Estado e Educação na perspectiva da função social da escola como instituição social que desempenha influência significativa no processo de formação da nação Atualiza, ainda, as análises sobre as relações entre o Estado e a educação na América Latina, a partir da crise de legitimidade que perpassa o processo de construção do Estado-Nação. O Estado brasileiro é analisado no contexto dos Estados latino-americanos no sentido de abstrair as especificidades no que tange às relações Escola- Estado para a constituição do Estado-nação.
