Resumo: This article discusses the concepts of technology and violence, as a starting point for a sociological understanding of the phenomena. Empirical data - all of them taken in Brazilian rural areas - emphasize the beginning of the modernization process in agriculture. It also presents some of the consequences of the introduction of new technologies, such as changes in social relations, as well as the question of citzenship.Discourse aiming at legitimizing and blurring physical and symbolic violence is embedded in the very forms of organization of the production in the country side.

Les références empiriques sont restreintes à 1’ espace rural brésilien et accentuent le début du processus de modernisation de l’agriculture.Sont discutées quelques implications survennues avec l’introduction des nouvelles technologies, aussi bien pour la transformation des rapports sociaux, ainsi que pour le processus de la construction de la citoyenneté. On signale particulièrement la formation d’un discours qui légitime et masque la violence (physique mais surtout symbolique) incrustée dans les formes à travers lesquelles ces techologies s’intégrent à l’organisation de la production dans le secteur de 1’élévage et de l’agriculture.O texto objetiva uma reflexão conceituai sobre a tecnologia e a violência, ponto de partida para a busca da compreensão sociológica das relações entre estes fenômenos.
