Resumo: The article discusses Gilberto Freyre´s position onthe horizon of Brazilian modernism and builds its argumentsupon the shared ideals of his generation. The main interpretativelines responsible for the renewal of Brazilian thoughts can besummarized by the replacement of the concept of Race byCulture, and by the alterations in the concepts of History,Memory, Time and Tradition.
