This text examines power in Foucault’s work. It briefly situates the"demarche" of his analysis. It is not hinged on the capital/labourcontradiction, nor does it posit the state as a central instance of power. Itgoes on to make brief comments on the difference between sovereignty anddisciplinary powers. At this point the author considers "the microphysics ofpower". Power is seen as a relation in which everybody possesses it and ispossessed by it. This leaves us a question: where does the dominion reside?Or should one ask: how does it take effect? Power should be understood inits positiveness, in its capacity for resistance. It thus characterizes a strugglebetween opposing forces. Thence the eternal possibility of the appropriationof discourses by one of the forces involved in the struggle and the consequentemergence ofpockets of resistance.
