Resumo: This article analyses the social, economic and politicalinsertion of a new’social category, the "new freedmen".Originallyused to designate any individual freed by emancipatory decrees inthe Caribbean, the expression here indicates a part of the workforce, dislocated from one productive system to another, withinthe context not only of Caribbean social structures but also ofCaribbean insertion in world economy.
