Sua origem é estimada no Séc. IV a.C. no oriente e somente no Séc. XIX chegou ao ocidente conforme registros na literatura. A partir de 1970 ganha espaço em diversos paises como EUA, França, inclusive o Brasil. O presente estudo teve como ponto de partida nossas observações durante as atividades de supervisão de estágios de um curso de especialização em Acupuntura, desenvolvidas no ambulatório de uma clínica escola. O objetivo geral deste estudo foi identificar e analisar os significados de Acupuntura atribuídos por um grupo de usuários de um serviço de saúde. Para atingirmos este objetivo desenvolvemos uma pesquisa de abordagem qualitativa junto a um grupo de pacientes de uma clínica escola de Acupuntura. Os dados foram coletados por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas, cujas falas foram transcritas e organizadas para procedermos a análise de conteúdo modalidade temática. Os resultados foram apresentados e discutidos em três momentos. No primeiro apresentamos as características da instituição e, no segundo, as dos sujeitos do estudo. No terceiro, os dados foram analisados por meio da categoria temática os significados da Acupuntura , onde estão implícitos quatro núcleos de sentido: o interesse por acupuntura , as fontes de indicação , a opção para o tratamento , e o significado da acupuntura . De um modo geral, as entrevistas nos mostram que o significado de acupuntura se constrói a partir de elementos informativos recebidos por profissionais de saúde, mídia ou outras pessoas sem formação técnica, mas acreditam em seu potencial curativo. Assim, foi possível identificar na fala dos sujeitos os significados que atribuem à Acupuntura e suas expectativas pelo tratamento, fatores estes que contribuirão para uma melhor assistência por meio desta modalidade de tratamento. _______________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTThe Acupuncture is a Traditional Chinese Medicine modality of treatment, based on the human body energy balance by specific points, distributed in meridians formed for a structure that establishes connection with the whole body, where the needles are duly applied through the skin. Its origin is esteem in 4th Century B.C. in the eastern and only in the 19th Century it comes to western world as registers in literature. From 1970 to nowadays, U.S.A., France and also Brazil it gets practitioners. This study has had as starting point our observations during the activities of training student supervision in an Acupuncture specialization course, developed in a clinical school ambulatory. The general aim of this study was to identify and to analyze the meanings of Acupuncture attributed by a group of users of a health service. To reach this objective we develop a qualitative study approach with a group of patients of a clinical school of Acupuncture. The data had been collected by means of semi-structured interviews, which speeches were transcribed and organized to precede the content analysis thematic modality. The results had been presented and argued at three moments. In the first one we present the characteristics of the institution and, in the second one, about the subjects of the study. In third one, the data had been analyzed by the thematic category "the meanings of the Acupuncture", where are implicit the four nuclei of sense: "the interest for Acupuncture", "the sources of indication", "the option for the treatment", and "the meaning of the Acupuncture". In a general way, the speeches shows that the Acupuncture meaning is constructed from informative elements received by health service professionals, media or other people without technique formation, but they believe on its potential cure.
