Influence of the informal institutional environment on cocoa production in the region of Linhares / ES: cultural factor analysis and the geographical indication

Resumo: The objective of this work is to analyze the influence of the informal institutional environment on the production of cocoa in the region of Linhares/ES, analyzing in a specific way the historic of cacao in Brazil and in the Espirito Santo region, and the culture aspects and local culture, of importance to the Geographical Indication (GI) context. The research is of qualitative approach and descriptive basis. In terms of procedures involved a study of multiple cases with cocoa producers in the Linhares region and an interview with the Association of Cocoa Growers of Linhares. The results point to the predominance of important informal institutional elements, such as the influence of origin, the history of a people, values and acquired knowledge. The influence of the informal institutional environment on production aspects is also observed by maintaining current production, as results from family inheritances of land, whose heirs have continued to reproduce the productive system of cocoa. The family succession, in some cases, is in the third generation. There is the influence of the neighborhood, of the friends and relatives and it is propitious for the producer to continue the business. Another factor considered important is the proximity of important producing areas of the Bahia, which influencing Linhares. Keywords: Agribusiness. Cocoa. Informal institutional enviroment. Culture.

Culture.El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar la influencia del entorno institucional informal en la producción de cacao en la región de Linhares / ES, analizando específicamente la historia del cacao en Brasil y la región de Espirito Santo, aspectos de la cultura y cultura local. En la naturaleza la investigación se aplica al segmento de producción de cacao, con enfoque cualitativo y base descriptiva. En términos de procedimientos, incluyó un estudio de múltiple caso con productores de cacao en la región de Linhares y una entrevista con la Asociación de Productores de Cacao en Linhares. Los resultados apuntan al predominio de elementos institucionales informales importantes, como la influencia del origen, la historia de un pueblo, los valores y el conocimiento adquirido. La influencia del entorno institucional informal en los aspectos de producción también se observa por el mantenimiento de la producción actual como resultado de la herencia de tierra de la familia, cuyos herederos continuaron reproduciendo el sistema de producción de cacao. La sucesión familiar, en algunos casos, está en la tercera generación. Existe la influencia del vecindario, amigos y familiares que producen cacao y es propicio para que el productor continúe con el negocio. Otro factor considerado importante es la proximidad de importantes zonas productoras de Bahía, de los cuales llaman Linhares. O objetivo deste trabalho é analisar a influência do ambiente institucional informal na produção de cacau na região de Linhares/ES, analisando-se de modo específico, o histórico do cacau no Brasil e na região do Espírito Santo, e os aspectos de cultura e cultura local, de importância para o contexto de Indicação Geográfica (IG). A pesquisa possui abordagem qualitativa e base descritiva. Em termos de procedimentos envolveu um estudo de múltiplos casos com produtores de cacau da região de Linhares e entrevista junto à Associação dos Cacauicultores de Linhares. Os resultados apontam a predominância de elementos institucionais informais importantes, como a influência da origem, a história de um povo, valores e conhecimentos adquiridos. Também é observada a influência do ambiente institucional informal nos aspectos da produção, por meio da manutenção da produção atual, como resultante de heranças familiares de terras, cujos herdeiros vêm continuando a reproduzir o sistema produtivo do cacau. A sucessão familiar, em alguns casos, se encontra na terceira geração. Existe a influência da vizinhança, dos amigos e parentes que produzem cacau e torna-se propícia ao produtor a continuação do negócio. Outro fator considerado importante é a proximidade de importantes áreas produtoras da Bahia, que vocacionam Linhares. Palavras-chave: Agronegócio. Cacau. Ambiente institucional informal.
