Resumo: The purpose of this study is to understand the production process and technologies used in the production of yerba mate by Brazil and Argentina, which represent more than 90% of world production. In the data analysis, it was possible to make comparisons in a historical series, of the evolution of the production, harvested area, planted area, consumption, exports and importation, as well as an analysis of the public policies in the herbal sector, identifying the innovations and technologies of both countries. It deals with the database of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) Ministry of Economy, Industry, Foreign Trade and Services, from Brazil, and in Argentina at the National Institute by Yerba Mate (INYM) and in Ministry of Finance and entities representing the productive class and public policy of development of the yerba mate sectoral chain of both countries. As a result, it was noted that there are differences in the use of technologies, public policies to encourage the roduction chain and the form of industrial organization, as well as the destinations of their exports that are requested by different importing countries. Even with the geographical proximity, the production models and production incentives are quite different from one country to another. Keywords: Yerba Mate. Public policy. Production Technology.

Production Technology.A finalidade deste estudo é compreender do processo produtivo e de tecnologias utilizadas na produção de erva-mate pelo Brasil e Argentina, os quais representam mais de 90% da produção mundial. Na análise de dados, foi possível fazer comparações numa série histórica, da evolução da produção, area colhida, area plantada, consumo, exportações e importação, bem como uma análise das políticas públicas no setor ervateiro, identificando as inovações e tecnologias de ambos países. Trata de uma pesquisa na base de dados do Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE), Ministério da Economia, Indústria, Comercio Exterior e Serviços, do Brasil, e na Argentina no Instituto Nacional de la Yerba Mate (INYM), Ministerio de Hacienda e entidades representativas da classe produtora e de política públicas de desenvolvimento da cadeia setorial da erva-mate de ambos países. Como resultado, percebeu-se que existe diferenças quanto ao uso de tecnologias, de políticas públicas de incentivos a cadeia produtiva e de forma de organização industrial, bem como os destinos de suas exportações que são requisitados por diferentes países importadores. Percebeu-se ainda que mesmo com a proximidades geográfica os modelos de produção e incentivos à produção são bem distintos de um pais para o outro. Palavras chave: Erva-Mate. Políticas Públicas.
