The agrarian issue in the Contestado: diversity of conflicts and motivations

Resumo: This article reflects about the intensity, relevance and timing of the manifestation of the agrarian question in the Contestado movement, considering the regional diversity achieved by the expansion of the peasant movement and the different natures of agrarian conflicts in progress before and during the Contestado War (1912-1916). This study considers that the meeting of the initial core of the axis from Taquaruçu to Caraguatá was formed by a peasant group that creator of the holy cities project, followers of the monks, but it was not a region impacted by serious processes of land concentration. The agrarian question was more pronounced in the regions of expansion of the movement, outside the initial nucleus. The diversity of a social profiles and local conflicts in the expansion of the movement beyond its original nucleus is highlighted. Keywords: Contestado War. Agrarian Question. Contestado social movement.Este artículo reflexiona sobre el peso, relevancia y oportunidade de la manifestación de la cuestión agraria en el movimento de Contestado, considerando la diversidad regional lograda por la expansión del movimiento campesino y las diferentes naturalezas de los conflictos agrarios en curso antes y durante la guerra (1912-1916). Este estudio considera que la reunión del núcleo inicial del eje de Taquaruçu a Caraguatá estuvo formada por un grupo campesino creador del proyecto de las ciudades santas, seguidores de los monjes, pero no fue una región impactada por procesos graves de concentración de tierras. La cuestión agraria fue más pronunciada en las regiones donde se expandió el movimiento, fuera del núcleo inicial. Se destaca la diversidad de perfiles sociales y conflictos locales en la expansión del movimiento más allá de su núcleo original. Palavras clave: Guerra del Contestado. Cuestión Agraria. Movimiento social del Contestado.Este artigo reflete sobre o peso, a relevância e o momento da manifestação da questão agrária no movimento do Contestado, considerando a diversidade regional alcançada pela expansão do movimento sertanejo e as diferentes naturezas de conflitos agrários em curso antes e durante a Guerra do Contestado (1912-1916). Este estudo considera que a reunião do núcleo inicial do eixo de Taquaruçu até Caraguatá era formado por um grupo sertanejo criador do projeto das cidades santas, seguidores dos monges, mas não era uma região impactada com processos sérios de concentração fundiária. A questão agrária era mais pronunciada nas regiões de expansão do movimento, fora do núcleo inicial. Fica destacada a diversidade dos perfis sociais e dos conflitos locais na expansão do movimento para além de seu núcleo original. Palavras-Chave: Guerra do Contestado. Questão Agrária.
