Resumo: This article aims to present the results of a study on the evolution of the Municipal Human Development Index (IDHM) of the municipalities of Planalto Norte Catarinense in 1991, 2000, and 2010. While the education dimension is prioritized, the article is characterized as a review supported by the principles of bibliographic and documentary research and is justified by the lack of discussions involving the researched region. Data from 13 municipalities of Planalto Norte Catarinense were analyzed. The study concludes that there are discrepancies among the municipalities in the region, low rate of qualified teacher training for the final years of elementary and high school, and failure to reach the goals designed for the final years of elementary school. El artículo se caracteriza como una revisión basada en los principios de la investigación bibliográfica y documental. Se justifica la falta de debates que involucran a la región encuestada. Se analizaron los datos de 13 municipios del Planalto Norte Catarinense. Se concluye que la región presenta discrepancias entre municipios, bajo nivel de educación de docentes calificados para los últimos años de primaria y secundaria, y no alcanza los objetivos proyectados para los últimos años de la escuela primaria. Planalto Norte Catarinense.Este artigo objetiva apresentar resultados de estudo sobre a evolução do Índice de Desenvolvimento Humano Municipal (IDHM) dos municípios do Planalto Norte Catarinense nos anos de 1991, 2000 e 2010.  Prioriza-se a dimensão educação. O artigo caracteriza-se como de revisão, apoiando-se nos princípios da pesquisa bibliográfica e documental. Foram analisados dados de 13 municípios do Planalto Norte Catarinense. Conclui-se que a região apresenta discrepâncias entre os municípios, baixo índice de formação de professores qualificados para os Anos Finais do Ensino Fundamental e Médio e não alcance das metas projetadas para os Anos Finais do Ensino Fundamental.
