Resumo: ABSTRACT: The realization of studies that seek to validate instruments that help in the knowledge of the vulnerability that certain species of plants that are exposed in urban environments, becomes an important tool for the understanding of the dynamics of stress to which they are subjected. It is in this sense that the fluctuating asymmetry (FA) stands out, a tool that measures the random deviation from the perfect bilateral or radial morphological symmetry of the organisms. Objective was to analyze whether there is presence of fluctuating asymmetry in the leaflets of Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi. The research was developed in the urban perimeter of the city of Arapiraca (Praça José Bernardino dos Santos), through the random collection of leaflets from individuals of the native species of Brazil, Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi (known as aroeira vermelha), with the help of a trimmer. Twenty 20 leaflets from six aroeira were randomly selected and analyzed, totaling 120 leaflets. The Shapiro-Wilk test was used to detect whether there was FA in S. terebinthifolius leaflets and all statistical analyzes were performed using the Program R, version 3.0.2. In the analyzed aroeira leaflets, the existence of PA was not found in S. terebinthifolius, since the data differed from the normal distribution (p=4.721e-21), that is, anatomical-morphological analyzes of the S. terebinthifolius leaflets did not show significant values for PA in the specimens collected in the square. It is suggested that this species may be an indicator of pollutant accumulation. KEYWORDS: Environmental Stress, Leaf alteration, Urban polition.
