Evaluation of the preferences of fish consumers in the municipality of Piancó-PB

Resumo: ABSTRACT: The objective was to evaluate the preferences of fish consumers in the municipality of Piancó, Paraíba. One hundred and eight interviews were carried out between August and November 2019, in urban and rural establishments, in which the interviewee's profile was assessed using a semi-structured “Survey” questionnaire on the profile, consumption habits and factors that affect the decision consumption. Of the respondents, 51% were female and 49% male, with monthly income below one minimum wage (74%) and age ranging between sixteen and over sixty years and complete high school. Only 2.78% of the interviewees preferred fish meat, seeking to acquire the whole fish, whether frozen (35.93%) or fresh (21.30%). The price was considered the main factor that influences the purchase of fish (58.33%). The frequency of consumption was more representative for the category "rarely" with 45% of the total of respondents. The main places of purchase by respondents are open markets (31%) and markets (29%), with a greater search for tilapia (67%). Regarding the main reasons that leads consumers to choose to buy fish, 41% said that the menu is to be varied, 31% say that the purchase is because fish is a nutritious food and is good for health. The lack of information from the population of the municipality of Piancó - PB on the benefits that fish provide to the health of the consumer, added to low income, make the consumption of these products of animal origin limited. Realizou-se 108 entrevistas entre os meses de agosto a novembro 2019, em estabelecimentos urbanos e rurais, na qual o perfil do entrevistado foi avaliado por meio de questionário semiestruturado estilo “Survey” sobre o perfil, hábitos de consumos e fatores que afetam a decisão de consumo. Dos entrevistados 51% foram do sexo feminino e 49% do sexo masculino, com renda mensal menor que um salário mínimo (74%) e idade variando entre dezesseis e mais de sessenta anos e ensino médio completo. Apenas 2,78% dos entrevistados apresentaram preferência a carne de pescado, buscando adquirir o peixe inteiro, sendo ele congelado (35,93%) ou fresco (21,30%). O preço foi considerado o principal fator que influencia a compra do pescado (58,33%). A frequência do consumo apresentou maior representatividade para a categoria “raramente” com 45% do total dos entrevistados. Os principais locais de compra pelos entrevistados são feiras livres (31%) e mercados (29%), com uma maior busca pela tilápia (67%). Em relação aos principais motivos que leva ao consumidor optar pela compra do pescado, 41% afirmaram que é para variar o cardápio, 31% afirmam que a compra se dá porque o peixe é um alimento nutritivo e faz bem à saúde. A falta de informações da população do município de Piancó - PB sobre os benefícios que o pescado proporciona a saúde do consumidor, agregada a baixa renda, fazem com que o consumo destes produtos de origem animal seja limitado.
