Resumo: | ABSTRACT: Stimulating the habit of reading is the responsibility of all education professionals, with School Libraries / Reading Rooms being essential for the accomplishment of such action. These environments have a role that goes beyond lending and demanding books, as they must stimulate, coordinate and organize, through their professionals, educational, recreational and socializing actions, being them also aimed at research. Given the importance of these environments for the teaching-learning process, the present work traces a panorama, based on the current legal parameters, of School Libraries / Reading Rooms of 5 state schools of the 1st Teaching Management (Gere). The research, of qualitative character, used the questionnaire as an instrument of data collection. The investigation showed, among other results, that in the schools surveyed there are only Reading Rooms, that there is a shortage of professionals qualified to work in these spaces and that the collection is not well organized, updated or varied, with a predominance of textbooks on their shelves. KEYWORDS: School environment, Reading, Teaching-learning.RESUMO: Estimular o hábito da leitura é uma responsabilidade de todos os profissionais da educação, sendo as Bibliotecas Escolares/Salas de Leitura essenciais para a efetivação dessa ação. Esses ambientes possuem um papel que vai além do emprestar e cobrar livros, pois devem estimular, coordenar e organizar, através de seus profissionais, ações educativas, recreativas e socializadoras, bem como voltadas a pesquisa. Diante da importância desses ambientes para o processo de ensino-aprendizagem, o presente trabalho traça um panorama, com base nos parâmetros legais vigentes, de Bibliotecas Escolares/Salas de Leitura de 5 escolas estaduais da 1ª Gerência de Ensino (Gere). A pesquisa, de caráter qualitativo, utilizou o questionário como instrumento de recolha de dados. A investigação demonstrou, entre outros resultados que nas escolas pesquisadas só há Salas de Leitura, que há carência de profissionais com qualificação para atuar nesses espaços e que o acervo não é organizado, atualizado e nem variado, predominando livros didáticos em suas prateleiras.
