Resumo: With recent advances in pharmacognosy and technology, natural products are becoming a popular resource for researchers to discover new and more effective medicines. Considering the potential of Amburana cearensis and Cynophalla hastata species in folk medicine and exploration by the pharmaceutical industry, it is important to know the interaction between them for a possible intercropping in a degraded recovery area or in reforestation programs. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the allelopathic effect of the aqueous extract of C. hastata leaves on the emergence and initial development of A. cearensis seedlings. A completely randomized design was adopted, using five concentrations of aqueous extract of C. hastata leaves (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100%) and five replications with 20 seeds each. The following evaluations were carried out: percentage of emergence, emergence speed index, average time of emergence, length of shoot and root system, dry weight of shoot, root system and total. Also, a qualitative characterization of groups of secondary metabolites was carried out for the extract of C. hastata leaves. The presence of substances with allelopathic potential such as alkaloids, saponins, phenolic compounds and flavonoids in the aqueous extract reduces emergence, emergence speed index, initial growth of the root system and dry mass accumulation of A. cearensis seedlings.

ABSTRACT: With recent advances in pharmacognosy and technology, natural products are becoming a popular resource for researchers to discover new and more effective medicines.
