Resumo: | ABSTRACT: Urban solid waste is a challenging issue for public environmental policies. One of the ways to discuss this subject in the school environment is through practical workshops, as this teaching tool enables students to actively build their knowledge, in addition to providing a reflection on their practice. Therefore, the objective of this work was to present and discuss workshop on Environmental Education (EE) represented by the reuse of vegetable cooking oil for the production of ecological soap. For this, an instructive workshop was held with 21 students from the 9th grade of an elementary school, located in the municipality of Arapiraca-AL, who were interviewed using semi-structured questionnaires (pre-test and post-test). Thus, some results obtained were: the majority of students interviewed, 57%, used, on average, from 1 L to 3 L of oil per month; 67% of students did not reuse oil; 52% of students were unaware of the alternatives for reusing oil; 67% of the students discarded the residual oil inappropriately; in relation to the concept of EE, 71% of the students did not know how to answer what it was about, although at the end of the work this percentage decreased to 14%, among other records. It is concluded that, by means of an EE action, students were able to understand the main problems that residual cooking oil can cause to the environment when disposed of inappropriately, reflecting the important role that EE can perform in improving teaching and learning, forming critical, sensitive, aware and committed citizens with care for the environment, being agents that transform their social and local reality. KEYWORDS: science teaching, environmental sensitization, saponification. |
