Resumo: ABSTRACT: Chaos theory is important advancement of this science in terms of scientific method, because much of what is thought in statistical analysis was rethought from the logistic equation originated for idea of chaos theory proposed. In this context, it is important to understand the contributions and the limitations that the chaotic dynamics in natural systems. The aim of this study was to review how chaos theory and his theoretical, statistical and methodological proposals influence. The results of the review indicate an understanding that chaos theory has many limitations for ecology for several different reasons, and that in turn also makes important contributions and offers interesting perspectives for further studies and research in management and conservation biology. KEYWORDS: caotic systems, statistic, dynamic natural, ecology, conservation.RESUMO: A teoria do caos em ecologia foi um importante avanço dessa ciência em termos de método científico, pois, muito do que se pensava e fazia de análise estatística foi repensado a partir das propostas da equação logística originada pela ideia da teoria do caos. Nesse contexto, é importante compreender as contribuições e a limitações que a dinâmica caótica em sistemas naturais ou em dados ecológicos pode ter para a ecologia. O objetivo desse trabalho foi fazer uma revisão de como a teoria do caos e suas propostas teóricas, estatísticas e metodológicas influenciaram na ecologia. Os resultados da revisão apontam para uma compreensão de que a teoria do caos possui muitas limitações para a ecologia por vários motivos diferentes, e que em contrapartida também traz importantes contribuições e apresenta perspectivas interessantes para novos estudos e pesquisas em ecologia e biologia da conservação. Conclui-se aqui que a teoria do caos foi apenas um passo na ideia de repensar a estatística em ecologia e que muito ainda precisa ser questionado e acrescentado para que se possa de fato dizer se o caos em sistemas naturais existe ou não.
