Resumo: | The use of medicinal plants as a traditional therapeutic practice, where popular knowledge stands out in the making and use of preparations from homemade inputs, has been increasing in Brazil, where this knowledge is transmitted orally between past and future generations. The objective of this work is to record knowledge about homemade preparations of medicinal plants used in the Lages community, municipality of Porto de Pedras (09º 09’ 30” S and 35º 17’ 42” W), state of Alagoas, northeast of Brazil. The research took place between September and December 2016 with the positive opinion of the Ethics and Research Committee and the signing of the Free and Informed Consent Form by the participants. Semi-structured interviews with the population and local experts point to tea, licking, poultices and baths as the main homemade preparations. All parts of the plant body are used, with the leaf being the most relevant for preparations. Plant species: Mentha sp.; Lippia alba (Mill.) N. E. Br.; Cymbopogon citratus (DC.) Stapf.; Alpinia zerumbet (Pers.) B.L Burtt. & R.M.Sm.; Plectranthus amboinicus (Lour.) Spreng.; Schinus terebinthifolia Raddi and Cnidoscolus urens (L.) Arthur were the most mentioned. The results show that there is a wide scope regarding the use of homemade preparations in the studied location, where the use of these therapeutic sources is widespread and consolidated among residents. |

N. E. Br. (cidreira); Cymbopogon citratus (DC.) Stapf. (capim santo); Alpinia zerumbet (Pers.) B.L Burtt. & R.M.Sm. (colônia); Plectranthus amboinicus (Lour.) Spreng.
