This work proposes a reflection on the crucial role of religion in shaping the socio-historical arrangements of Brazil, particularly in the Northeastern Sertão. Focusing on Sertanejo Popular Catholicism (SOUZA, 2023; NEVES, 2019; SILVA, 2019; OLIVEIRA, 2019; CRUZ, 2010), the research is conducted from the perspective of autoethnography (SANTOS, 2017; ADAMS; JONES; ELLIS, 2015 ), starting from my personal experience to describe the community experience of access to the Sacred, based on this form of exercising faith. The focus of the work is on the description and reflection on the practice of Popular Catholicism, especially through the actions of prayer women (SOUZA; SANTOS, 2021; MORAIS, 2011; MAIOR, 1998) and the cult of the Popular Saints Maria and Augustinha (SOUZA, 2023). The reflections highlighted the centrality of religion in the social structure of the inhabited/studied territory, highlighting the continuous presence and strengthening of Sertanejo Popular Catholicism, built from indigenous and black knowledge. Within this context, the study provides valuable insights into the unique dynamics of Sertanejo Popular Catholicism, highlighting its influence on the daily life of local communities. This approach, anchored in the author's personal experience, contributes to a deeper understanding of the interaction between religion, culture and identity in the specific context of the Brazilian Northeastern Sertão.
