A WOMAN INSERTED IN HER TIME: THE WRITINGS OF FRANCISCA CLOTILDE IN THE MAGAZINE A QUINZENA

Resumo: The present work seeks to investigate the performance of female teachers for conquest of public space occupied by male figures, either as spectors and school principals or as members of literary associations and various societies who took on the task of directing the course of issues related to education. With Ceará from the last decades of the 19th century as a time frame, the investigation will take the trajectory of Francisca Clotilde, teacher, writer and journalist, always considering the conflictual dynamic that involved her performance in the literate scenario. Their attitude one time constituted reverberations of Catholic conservatism, another time they were modified, even when social roles tried to instill the opposite. These women took the current ideas that designated them the activities in the domestic space, in an attempt to convince them of their importance in the order and harmony of the social structure, and to claim their competence for the practise of functions until then occupied by men, such as those of character administrative, either in Public Instruction, in the Normal School or participation in the debates about the main issues that drove state of affairs at the time.

Teniendo como recorte temporal el estado de Ceará de las últimas décadas del siglo XIX, la investigación tomará la trayectoria de Francisca Clotilde, profesora, escritora y periodista, prestando especial atención a la dinámica conflictiva que afectó su actuación en el escenario letrado. Sus posturas no solo constituyeron reverberaciones del conservadurismo católico sino que también se fueron modificando, incluso cuando los papeles sociales intentaban inculcar lo contrario. Esas mujeres tomaron las ideas vigentes que designaban sus actividades en el espacio doméstico, en el intento por convencer de su importancia en cuanto al orden y la armonía de la estructura social y de reclamar su capacidad para el ejercicio de funciones hasta el momento ocupadas por hombres, como las de carácter administrativo, tanto en la Instrucción Pública, como también en la Escuela Normal, o de participación en los debates de las principales cuestiones que dirigían el estado de cosas en aquel periodo.O presente trabalho busca investigar a atuação de mulheres-professoras pela conquista do espaço público ocupado por figuras masculinas, seja nas funções de inspetores e diretores escolares, ou como sócios de agremiações literárias e sociedades diversas, que tomaram para si a tarefa de direcionar os rumos das questões atinentes à educação. Tendo o Ceará das últimas décadas do século XIX como recorte temporal, a investigação tomará a trajetória de Francisca Clotilde, professora, escritora e jornalista, atentando sempre para a dinâmica conflitual que envolveu sua atuação no cenário letrado. Suas posturas ora constituíram reverberações do conservadorismo católico, ora foram se modificando, mesmo quando os papéis sociais tentavam incutir o contrário.
