Emotional intelligence and its relationship in the alcohol consumption in Mexican university students

Resumo: Objective: to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and the prevalence of alcohol consumption in university students of both genders. Methods: descriptive, cross-sectional and correlational design, non-probabilistic convenience sampling with a sample of 365 students from a public institution of higher education in H. Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, descriptive and correlational statistics were used. Results: the female gender was higher (76.7%) than the male gender (23.3%), with an age range of 18 to 24 years, where the prevalence of alcohol consumption in life was 77% and the age of first consumption It was between 15 and 18 years old (56.4%), older than 18 years old (12.6%) and younger than 15 years old (8.5%), lapsico consumption was in the last year 38.8%, month 24.7% and 7 days 19.7%. The IE dimensions of attention to feelings and repair of emotions presented similar values ​​in both genders, mostly an adequate and excellent level. The correlation in women between the age of alcohol consumption and the EI dimensions was significant and inverse. Conclusions: young people present high prevalence of consumption and EI, it was found that for the male gender, emotional clarity requires strategies that allow it to be improved.

Métodos: diseño descriptivo, transversal y correlacional, muestreo no probabilístico por conveniencia con una muestra de 365 estudiantes de una institución pública de educación superior en H. Matamoros, Tamaulipas, México, se utilizó estadística descriptiva y correlacional. Resultados: el género femenino fue mayor (76.7%) que el masculino (23.3%), con una rango de edad de 18 a 24 años, donde la prevalencia de consumo de alcohol en la vida fue de 77% y la edad de primer consumo se ubicó entre 15 y 18 años (56.4%), mayores de 18 años (12.6%) y menores de 15 años (8.5%), el consumo lapsico fue en el último año 38.8%, mes 24.7% y 7 días 19.7%. Las dimensiones  IE de atención de los sentimientos y reparación de emociones presentaron en ambos géneros valores similares, en su mayoría un nivel adecuado y excelente. La correlación en mujeres entre edad de consumo de alcohol y las dimensiones la IE, fue significativa e inversa. Conclusiones: los jóvenes presentan altas prevalencias de consumo e IE, se encontró que para el género masculino la claridad emocional requiere estrategias que permitan mejorarla.Objetivo: determinar la relación entre la inteligencia emocional y la prevalencia del consumo de alcohol en jóvenes universitarios. El consumo lapsico fue en el último año 38.8%. Las dimensiones inteligencia emocional de atención de los sentimientos y reparación de emociones presentaron en ambos géneros valores similares, en su mayoría un nivel adecuado y excelente. La correlación en mujeres entre edad de consumo de alcohol y las dimensiones la inteligencia emocional, fue significativa e inversa.
