“There are no beings that do not constitute nations similar to you”: Notes about non-human animals at islam

Resumo: In the Islamic conception, non-human animals form communities -which resemble that of human animals. Through excerpts from the main sources of Islam, the Our'an, as well as the narratives of the life of the Prophet Muhammad, this article studies the relations between humans and non-humans as supported by Islamic tradition. Considering the doctrinal and ontological elements arranged in such sources, we point to the possibility’ of a non-anthropocentric and non-speciesist reading of the Qur'an, which reveal anthropological issues compatible with aspects of the so-called "ontological turn We may conclude that the tradition of Islam does not suggest that humans develop knowledge about animals only, but that they’ learn from animals, given the pedagogical potential of this relationship for a better understanding of the human condition.

Considerando los elementos doctrinalesy ontológicos dispuestos en dichas fuentes, apuntamos a la posibilidad de una lectura no antropocéntrica y no especista del Corán, que revele cuestiones antropológicas compatibles con aspectos del llamado “giro ontológico He ello se desprende, por tanto, que la tradición del Islam no sugiere que los humanos desarrollen conocimientos sobre los animales unicamente, sino que aprendan de los animales, dado el potencial pedagógico de esta relación para una mejor comprensión de la condición humana.Na concepção islâmica, os animais não-humanos formam comunidades que se assemelham às dos animais humanos. A partir de trechos das principais fontes do Islam, o Alcorão e as narrativas da vida do Profeta Muhammad, este artigo estuda as relações entre humanos e não-humanos como sustentadas pela tradição islâmica. Considerados os elementos doutrinários e ontológicos dispostos em tais fontes, apontamos para a possibilidade de uma leitura não-antropocêntrica e não-especista do Alcorão que revelam questões antropológicas compatíveis com aspectos da chamada "virada ontológica".
