Metabolic profile of diabetic rats submitted to chronic physical exercise

Resumo: The aim of the present study was to examine the effects of physical exercise on the metabolic profile in diabetic rats induced by streptozotocin. Male Wistar rats were divided into 4 groups, sedentary control (SC), trained control (TC), sedentary diabetic (SD) and trained diabetic (TD). Diabetes was induced by Streptozotocin (50 mg/kg b.w. i.v.). The training program consisted of swimming 5 days/week, 1 h/day, supporting a load of 5 % body weight for 8 weeks. The diabetic groups (sedentary and trained) showed hyperglycemia. The training reduced serum AGL in both, diabetic and control groups. Besides, the training increased total proteins and muscle glycogen in control group. It was concluded that diabetes (by streptozotocin) induced some alterations on metabolic profile and physical training promoted important metabolic adaptations in Wistar rats.

Ratos Wistar foram distribuídos nos seguintes grupos: Controle Sedentário (CS), Controle Treinado (CT), Diabético Sedentário (DS) e Diabético Treinado (DT). O diabetes foi induzido por estreptozotocina (50mg/kg pc. i.v.). O programa de treinamento consistiu de uma hora de natação diária, cinco dias/semana, durante oito semanas consecutivas com 5% de sobrecarga. Os ratos diabéticos sedentários e treinados apresentaram elevada glicemia. O treinamento físico reduziu as concentrações séricas de AGL nos grupos diabético e controle. Além disso, as proteínas totais bem como o glicogênio do músculo foram aumentados pelo exercício crônico no grupo controle.
