Resumo: Stretching is commonly used to warm up before physical exercise and sporting activities. However, little is known about the real effects of stretching with regards to performance in the vertical jump. The objective of this study was to verify the acute effects of sub-maximal static stretching on performance of the vertical jump with countermovement in 20 male members of the armed forces. Three jumps were performed in Contact Platforms (Multisprint), under the following conditions: Control Group (S) and Stretching (S1), carried out on separate days, on a randomized basis. Two-way Anova two-way, followed by the post hoc Tukey test did not show significant differences (p>0,05) in the performance of the jumps for (S1), when compared to the Control Group, in spite of the intra-group percentage differences: 7.57%, 6.44%, 6.50% and 6.53% for S1 post, S1 (10´), S1 (20´), S1 (40´) in relation to S1, pre- respectively. We conclude that sub-maximal static stretching does not affect performance in the vertical jump.

We conclude that sub-maximal static stretching does not affect performance in the vertical jump.O alongamento é comumente empregado como aquecimento antes das práticas físicas e desportivas.
