Resumo: The present study had two purposes: assess the effect of the anchor system on the postural control of older adults, and assess the effect of the systematic use of the anchor system on the postural control of older adults. Five older adults were invited to stand in a semi-tandem position with and without the use of an anchor system. For each block of practice trials using the anchor system, participants held, in each hand, a nylon rope attached to a 125g-anchor-weight. Participants were asked to keep each rope stretched and the anchor weight resting on the floor. Results pointed out that the anchor system reduced body sway measured through center of pressure displacements. However, when the older adults were tested in the transfer condition without the anchor system, the use of the anchor system did not result in any long lasting effect on their postural control.
