O Futuro (1862-1863), Jornal das Famílias (1863-1878) and a Estação (1979-1904): three periodicals for wich Machado de Assis colaborated

Machado de Assis (1839-1908) had his career marked by his constant collaboration on periodical magazines, and for us three of them are of special interest: O Futuro (1862-1863), Jornal das Famílias (1863-1878) and A Estação (1879-1904). Because of this constant work on these publications, the writer was regarded as their main collaborator. By their turn the three magazines had remarkable importance on the process of Machado’s intellectual development: O Futuro was contemporary with the beginning of the writer’s trajectory, and Jornal das Famílias and A Estação, during the long time they were published, provided him more space for the practice and development of the narrative gender, specially concerning on the production of short stories, which was essential for the acclamation of Machado de Assis in the brazilian literature scene. For this reason it is very important to know the main features of these magazines as the profile of the publications should also be taken on account by the writers in the production of their texts.
