Resumo: The present article intends to show the role of the Historical and Geographical Institute of the State of Mato Grosso – IHGMT, and its function in the reconstitution of the past of Mato Grosso, in order to analyze its introduction into the Reconstruction Program of the Nation and its identity between 1919 and 1969. We consider these years as the timeframe between the foundation of the Institute and the publication of Virgílio Corrêa Filho’s work, The History of Mato Grosso. Our objective is to highlight the discursive practices that made the historiographical operations possible. Upon reorganizing the past, differences are silenced, and bodies are rearranged, deprived of their tombs, in a non-place, by writings that bring speech to the speechless.
