Resumo: O presente artigo explora a discussão sobre o conceito de território como categoria analítica na área de ciências sociais e humanas. Em particular, é discutida a possibilidade de uma tipologia de territórios com base em sua essência materiais e imateriais. Em primeiro lugar, então, a idéia de matéria e substância serão abordadas conseguindo assim aproximar a idéia de imaterialidade. Posteriormente ontologia do social é analisada pra discutir as esferas do material e do imaterial, com especial ênfase sobre o papel analítico dessas categorias. Finalmente uma abordagem para o debate já estabelecido com o conceito de território e se for material e imaterial ou são dois tipos diferentes de territórios.
