Spatial configuration of deforestation in agricultural frontier: A case study in region of São Félix do Xingu - Pará

Resumo: In the agricultural frontier of the Brazilian Amazon, the absence of territorial ownership hinders sustainable natural resources. Using field data from different institutions on the agricultural frontier of São Félix do Xingu in Pará state, this study aimed to automate through geotechnology, identification and monitoring of the dynamics of deforestation in the region, where the technical, informational and operating data are scarce, making it difficult to conduct research and development policies. The results showed that the understanding of the spatial configuration related groups of actors with different socioeconomic levels contributes to a better design of public policies that, when directed to the behavior of each category, contribute significantly to deforestation containment actions and plans for sustainable development in agricultural frontier regions.

Sur les fronts pionniers agricoles en Amazonie brésilienne, l'absence d'agencement territorial rend difficile l'exploitation durable des ressources naturelles. En utilisant les informations de différentes institutions sur le front agricole de São Félix do Xingu (État du Pará, Brésil), cette étude vise à automatiser, usant les géo-technologies, l'identification et le suivi de la dynamique de déboisement dans cette région, où les les moyens techniques, de collecte d'informations et de décision sont peu développés, ce qui rend difficile la réalisation de recherche pour la mise en place de politiques de développement. Les résultats montrent que la compréhension de  l'organisation spatiale des groupes d'acteurs avec des niveaux socio-économiques différents permet d'avoir une meilleur conception des politiques publiques, adéquate au profil de chaque catégorie, et contribue d'une façon significative à limiter les déboisements et à établir plan de développement durable pour la région de front pionnier. Nas fronteiras agrícolas da Amazônia brasileira, a ausência do ordenamento territorial dificulta a apropriação sustentável dos recursos naturais. Usando informações de campo de diferentes instituições sobre a fronteira agrícola de São Félix do Xingu, no Estado do Pará, este estudo visou automatizar, por meio de geotecnologia, a identificação e o monitoramento da dinâmica de desflorestamento naquela região, onde os recursos técnicos, informacionais e operacionais são escassos, o que dificulta a realização de pesquisas para subsidiar políticas de desenvolvimento. Os resultados mostraram que a compreensão da configuração espacial relacionada a grupos de atores com diferentes níveis socioeconômicos contribui para uma melhor concepção de políticas públicas que, quando direcionadas ao comportamento de cada categoria, contribuem significativamente com ações de contenção do desflorestamento e com os planos de desenvolvimento sustentável em regiões de fronteira agrícola.
