Resumo: O processo de territorialização dos assentamentos rurais é uma discussão pertinente no estudo da questão agrária brasileira, ao tratar dos sujeitos como atores fundamentais na construção das identidades e representações do movimento socioterritorial. Nesse sentido, o artigo tem por objetivo, discutir a questão do território, identidade e cultura no assentamentos rurais, bem como apresentar o quadro geral da reforma agrária no Brasil nas duas primeiras décadas do século XXI, e por fim fazer apontamentos dos trabalhos realizados por geógrafos sobre assentamentos rurais no Rio Grande do Sul entre 2000 – 2015.
